Abstract:

The recycling technology with foamed bitumen is a new technology of pavements modernization in Poland and the influence of climatic factors on its. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of hydrophobic activators (as a cement replacement) and fines content from dedusting system on water and frost resistance basic properties of the base course with cold recycling technology. At first the fractional Box-Benkhen design was made. The foamed bitumen (1) was added to recycled material in amount of 2% up to 4% with steps of 1% and fines (2) from 5% to 20% with steps of 7.5%. Two hydrophobic activators and their blend (3) were incorporated into recycled mixture. The water and frost resistance tests revealed that application of hydrophobic activators had the beneficial influence on the water and frost resistance similar to the application of hydraulic binder (cement).
