The article presents the original method of calculating the transverse impedance damage and the distance to a fault location in XRUHKXS 1×120RMC/50 the power cable with a local weakening of insulation. The method is based on the measurements of input impedance of the cable in an open state at both ends to determine the fault transverse impedance and the distance to the fault location. The proposed method is non-destructive and can be used remotely as a preliminary method of fault localization. The method was compared with time-domain reflectometry. Both numerical and experimental verifications confirm its effectiveness.
