The RSVP protocol provides signaling service for resource reservations. RSVP version 1 protocol allows flexible reservations for multicast transmission, even for large multicast sessions. The key features of new RSVP protocol, described in RFC 3175, include aggregation for IPv4 and IPv6 reservations and predictive reservations. However, predictive reservation methodology, policy and detailed system architecture are not defined in this specification. The paper proposes prediction-based dynamic QoS assurance for multicast distribution of MPEG-encoded video traffic. Dynamic bandwidth allocation uses extended RSVP signaling protocol and prediction-based bandwidth renegotiation module. Computer simulations confirmed that the proposed solution lead to better utilization of network resources than fixed (von-predictive) service(1).
